Xenical Diet Pill Review
Generic name: Orlistat
Over-the-Counter name: Alli

Orlistat, more commonly known by the brand name Xenical, is one of the few weight loss medications approved for long term use. Unlike most diet pills that work by suppressing appetite or stimulating metabolism, Xenical works by decreasing the absorption dietary fat.

When taking Xenical diet pills, approximately one-third of the fat you eat is not absorbed. Instead of being deposited on your hips, butt, thighs, or other problem area, the unabsorbed fat will be promptly deposited in the toilet.

Not surprisingly, several unpleasant digestive system side effects are associated with Xenical diet pills. A few of the most common side effects include frequent oily bowel movements, oily spotting, and gas with oily discharge. A protective undergarment may need to be worn when you begin taking this product.

Despite some undesirable side effects, Xenical diet pill has shown some promise in clinical weight loss trials. In a year-long weight loss study, patients taking Xenical along with eating a reduced-calorie diet lost 13.4 pounds, as compared to the 5.8 pounds lost by patients who only dieted.

While Xenical has been clinically proven to prevent the absorbtion of some dietary fat, it does nothing for carbohydrates and protein. As a matter of fact, if you eat a meal that is low in fat there is no need to take a capsule with that meal since it will not be effective. If you are on a high protein or high carb diet that is low in fat, Xenical probably isn’t the diet pill for you.

The manufacturer of Xenical diet pills recommends a diet consisting of no more than 30% fat. Any more than that and you’ll urgently suffer the unpleasant oily consequences.

If you follow a reduced-fat diet and increase activity levels as suggested by the manufacturer of Xenical, you will lose weight, regardless of whether you take the diet pill or not. It really is just a matter of how much extra weight you’ll lose and your tolerance for the side effects.

Xenical isn't cheap. Expect to pay about $200 per month if your health insurance doesn’t cover the cost. Most insurance companies are reluctant to cover the cost of diet pills unless you are significantly overweight or suffer from obesity-related health conditions. Consult your doctor if you think Xenical weight loss pills might work for you.  Or try Alli, the over-the-counter version of Xenical.  Alli is the only over-the-counter diet pill that is FDA approved.
